Also included are her self-published poetry booklets, material relating to her 1970 campaign in support of school prayer, and research material regarding Dr. Adrian Scolten, a 1948 Maine Senatorial candidate. There is also mixed correspondence to Doane from 1964-77, and a small amount of biographical material, including several photographs and a resume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biographical\/Historical Note<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, and long-time resident of Brownfield, Maine, Myrtle Doane was married in 1938 and raised one daughter and two step-daughters. In addition to working as a school teacher and in a variety of clerical positions, Doane wrote news columns for local papers, including the <em>Advertiser-Democrat<\/em> (Norway\/South Paris). She also published poetry in local periodicals, and in several self-published booklets. Doane was an active member of the Poetry Fellowship of Maine, American PEN Women, and a variety of civic clubs, including the Freedoms Foundation.
