She taught literature and wrote essays for <em>The Home Journal<\/em>, <em>Portland Transcrip<\/em>t and <em>Boston Journa<\/em>l. She was active in the movement toward ready-made clothing for women, as opposed to custom-made clothing, which took much time and effort, publishing <em>Dress-Reform<\/em> in 1874.
