Berenice Abbott collection, 1950-1991<\/a><\/strong>Primarily published articles about Abbott and her work, dating from the 1970s into the 1990s. Also included are exhibition catalogs and ephemera from the exhibits which featured Abbott’s work, material regarding awards received, and a small amount of correspondence from Abbott to the MWWC.<\/p>

Mildred McKinley Abele papers, 1912-1948<\/a><\/strong>Personal correspondence, examination notes from nursing school, earlier education materials, graduation certificates as well as a diary, bank book and CD of scanned images. The correspondence begins in her first year as a probationary nursing student (1927) at Cary Memorial Hospital in Caribou, Maine.<\/p>

Lee Agger collection, 1981-1988<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence with former MWWC curator Dorothy Healy, Agger’s speech for the Altrusa Club meeting and a letter to Annette Dorey.<\/p>

Isabella (Pansy) Alden collection, 1942<\/a><\/strong>Contains two letters from Isabella Alden’s niece to Anna Hooper of Portland, Maine. <\/p>

Elizabeth Akers Allen papers, 1866-1911<\/a><\/strong>Composed primarily of letters from Elizabeth Akers Allen to her friend Gilbert Tracy, written between 1902-1911. Some literary correspondence between Akers Allen and several publishers is included, as well as a manuscript copy of Sea Birds<\/i>, under her pseudonym Florence Percy, dated 1866.<\/p>

Margaret Stevens Allen collection, 1976<\/a><\/strong>A single memorial booklet for her husband Neal, who died in 1976. The booklet contains two of her poems: “Autumn” and “This Road.”<\/p>

Jane W. Anderson collection, 1848<\/a><\/strong>A three stanza prayer poem written by Anderson in August 1848.<\/p>

Patricia McGraw Anderson collection, 1988<\/a><\/strong>Includes a copy of Bowdoin<\/em> (Fall 1988) with an article about the architecture of Bowdoin College. <\/p>

Carol Armstrong collection, 1986-1987<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence from Carol Armstrong to Dorothy Healy, some on cards designed by Armstrong.<\/p>

Alta Ashley collection, 1969-1995<\/a><\/strong>Includes an obituary, articles, photographs, a resume, and a copy of a booklet authored by Ashley entitled The Monhegan Ice Pond<\/em>. There is also a small amount of material relating to Monhegan Island.<\/p>

Ann S. Attwood papers, 1854-1886<\/a><\/strong>Original correspondence, school papers, clippings and a photograph. <\/p>

Phyllis Austin papers, 1944-2017<\/a><\/strong>Consists primarily of Austin’s research conducted for various projects, mainly regarding Baxter State Park and in preparation for her book, Wilderness Partners: Buzz Caverly and Baxter State Park<\/em> (2008).<\/p>

Kathrine Cole Aydelott collection, 2003<\/a><\/strong>A manuscript of literary criticism about Sarah Orne Jewett’s work. Aydelott’s dissertation was titled Maine Stream: A Bibliographical Reception Study of Sarah Orne Jewett<\/em>.<\/p>

Sidney Baldwin papers, 1891-1986<\/a><\/strong>Newspaper columns written by Baldwin, mostly for The Peoria Star<\/em> (Illinois), dating from the late 1890s through the 1950s. Also biographical and genealogical information, as well as some early family correspondence and several photographs of Baldwin in her later years.<\/p>

Sister R. Mildred Barker collection, 1990<\/a><\/strong>Obituary and a black and white photo of Sister Mildred.<\/p>

Kate Barnes papers, 1960-2005, undated<\/a><\/strong>Contains manuscripts, drawings, correspondence, and ephemera.<\/p>

Theodosia L. Barrell collection, 1904-1918<\/a><\/strong>Student record books, notes from teaching classes, notes from “Shakespeare Club,” poetry, and blank report cards.<\/p>

Anna Barrows papers, 1839-1948, undated<\/a><\/strong>Several folders of Barrows’ notes and drafts of demonstration lectures. Also included are some of Barrows’ published articles and other ephemeral material on the topic of home economics education. There is correspondence between family members, a number of Barrows’ vital records, and material relating to Barrows’ interest in gardening, antiques, and rare books.<\/p>

Georgiana Souther Barrows papers, 1856-1890<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence from Georgiana to her husband and her mother-in-law, and from her husband when he was in the Maine Senate. There are several verse manuscripts, one of which (“Dirge”) is signed.<\/p>

Ramona Barth papers, 1880-2002, undated<\/a><\/strong>The items in this collection range from unpublished manuscripts, to stamp collections, to large posters. There is a small collection of VHS and cassettes, as well as transparencies with which Barth made t-shirts (including one of her own face). The topics are varied, but women’s liberation is a common theme throughout the collection.<\/p>

Lura Beam collection, 1934-1990<\/a><\/strong>Reviews, a historical society booklet, a photocopy of “Contemporary American Novel” written by Beam and a copy of a story published in The Yale Review<\/em>.<\/p>

Ann Beattie papers, 1976-1996, undated<\/a><\/strong>Typescript of Beattie’s novel Falling in Place<\/em> (1981), with the author’s inscription on the title page, and a collection of personal correspondence from Beattie to Burt Britton from 1976-1996.<\/p>

Siri Beckman collection, 1992-2004<\/a><\/strong>Includes greeting cards designed by Siri Beckman, a resume, and exhibition information.<\/p>

Abbie S. Beede papers, 1837-1985, undated<\/a><\/strong>Family correspondence, postcards, property deeds, Pinkham family genealogy, and a photograph of the Beede home. <\/p>

Nadya Bernard collection, 1980-1981<\/a><\/strong>Poems, photographs and correspondence.<\/p>

Brenda Bettinson collection, 1996-2009<\/a><\/strong>A festschrift book created for Bettinson by Mathias Fine Art in 2009, composed of color and black and white reproductions of Bettinson’s work and essays by 24 contributors.<\/p>

Audrey White Beyer papers, 1935-1985<\/a><\/strong>Typescripts of Beyer’s early poetry and prize-winning articles, as well as of her four young adult novels, published from 1959-1968.<\/p>

Joyce K. Bibber collection, 1983-1989<\/a><\/strong>Contains two articles – one about Portland home interiors and one about Nathan Winslow, an early 19th century Portland merchant.<\/p>

Millicent Todd Bingham collection, 1937-1968<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence with MWWC and two articles.<\/p>

Bonnie Bishop papers, 1996-2019<\/a><\/strong>Includes a sketchbook for No One Noticed Ralph<\/em>, as well as draft materials for other smaller book arts projects. The finished artist books can be found in the MWWC catalogue. Many of the books include poems written by Bishop.<\/p>

Blaisdell family letters, 1879-1916<\/a><\/strong>Consists of 123 letters, most of which are addressed to either Mrs. F. W. (Lucy) Blaisdell or to her daughter Elizabeth Pierce Blaisdell Dolan. The collection also contains Elizabeth’s 1942 diary.<\/p>

Louise Bogan collection, 1934-1985<\/a><\/strong>Includes a note from Bogan to Ruth Limmer, her literary executor, as well as brief MWWC correspondence with both Limmer and Bogan. There is also a special printing of Bogan’s poem “July Dawn,” a choral piece with text by Bogan, and a poetry manuscript entitled “Wanderlust.” Also included is a Lotte Jacobi photograph of Bogan and clippings relating to Bogan and her work.<\/p>

Book Insert collection, 1839-1998<\/a><\/strong>A large range of material types in this collection including photographs, clippings, correspondence, and greeting cards. <\/p>

Mrs. F. E. Boothby collection, 1893, 1913<\/a><\/strong>Includes greeting cards designed by Mrs. F. E. Boothby and a Columbia Bell Committee newsletter.<\/p>

Vaun E. Born collection, 1984<\/a><\/strong>Includes a booklet on the Eunice Frye Home with a letter to MWWC.<\/p>

Glenna Botting collection, 1989<\/a><\/strong>Three collections of poems.<\/p>

Minnie Bowden collection, 1978-1993<\/a><\/strong>Biographical information, published poetry, manuscripts and recordings of poetry readings.<\/p>

Phebe Anne Boyle collection, 1970<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence to Down East<\/em> magazine’s book reviewer.<\/p>

Sarah Jones Bradbury collection, 1888-1898<\/a><\/strong>Extracts from Bradbury’s diary (1750-1766), published in the Sunday Courier-Telegram<\/em> in 1898, and excerpts from text read in 1888 at the Fortnightly Club of Chicago.<\/p>

Carol Brightman collection, 1983-1999<\/a><\/strong>Includes articles, one on Deborah Morton, and reviews.<\/p>

CarolAnn Brown collection, 1992-1993<\/a><\/strong>One folder compiled by John Jaques, USM professor, contains correspondence, poetry, poetry awards, and Jaques’ notes on CarolAnn Brown.<\/p>

Ina Ladd Brown collection, 1957-1984<\/a><\/strong>Typescripts of Brown’s poetry (some unpublished) and plays, as well as essays on the subject of writing. A small amount of correspondence and ephemera related to her writing is included.<\/p>

Polly Kapteyn Brown collection, 1983-1993<\/a><\/strong>Includes an exhibit catalog, two unpublished typescripts, a photo and biographical information. <\/p>

Laura Curtis Bullard collection, 1981<\/a><\/strong>Includes a review and a reproduction photograph; also a biographical sketch.<\/p>

Abagail Burnell letters, 1855-1857<\/a><\/strong>The letters from Burnell to her mother on topics of daily rural life. <\/p>

Margaret Burnham collection, 1808-1995<\/a><\/strong>Includes an obituary, poems, a sermon from Oliver Ellsworth, photographs, a beaded bag, and an invitation to the Constitutional Centennial Celebration.<\/p>

Mildred Burrage collection, 1956-1991<\/a><\/strong>Contains scrapbooks Burrage maintained of her columns on arts and historical subjects that were written for The Boothbay Register<\/i> and The Kennebec Journal<\/i>, correspondence with the Maine Women Writers Collection, and articles about her.<\/p>

Adelyn Bushnell collection, 1924-1954<\/a><\/strong>Includes articles written about Adelyn Bushnell.<\/p>

Ellen Hamlin Butler collection, 1911<\/a><\/strong>Includes a scrapbook and manuscript.<\/p>

Joyce Butler collection, 1969-2014<\/a><\/strong>Consists mostly of published articles and essays on Maine history, written by Butler between 1970-1986. Also included are promotional material and reviews for her published books, and one folder of biographical material.<\/p>

Dolores Cairns collection, 1927-1947<\/a><\/strong>Includes a biographical information sheet and photocopies of scrapbooks containing Cairns’ published poems and essays.<\/p>

Mary R. Calvert collection, 1975-1996<\/a><\/strong>The bulk of this collection is composed of research materials used by Calvert for her works on the Kennebec River Valley.<\/p>

Camp Moy Mo Da Yo collection, 1907-2009<\/a><\/strong>Contains records primarily dating from 1907 to 1972 including administrative records, publications and ephemera. The majority of the collection is made up of photographs documenting the camp throughout its existence. The images include photographs of the camp, various activities and groups of campers and staff. <\/p>

Gladys Hasty Carroll collection, 1919-1999<\/a><\/strong>The bulk of the manuscript material is correspondence with Burton Trafton, beginning in the late 1930s focusing on the years of World War II through 1990. <\/p>

Rachel Carson collection, 1946-1964<\/a><\/strong>Includes material published in periodicals (photocopies) and one article about Carson.<\/p>

Crystal Cawley collection, 2004, 2007<\/a><\/strong>Includes a postcard. The Maine Women Writers Collection also holds six of Cawley’s artist’s books.<\/p>

Nicole Chaison collection, 2011<\/a><\/strong>Consists of one promotional postcard for a performance by Chaison and others entitled “The Passion of the Hausfrau: An Illuminated Solo Comedy,” held at Freeport Factory Stage.<\/p>

Chandler family letters, 1870-1949<\/a><\/strong>Primarily correspondence to and from members of the Chandler family from 1870-1949. The bulk of the letters date from 1925-1947, and are addressed either to Grace (“Bird”) or Ellen (“Lulla” or “Kit”). Many of the letters document Grace’s handling of the family’s investments, as well as the financial challenges caused by the 1929 stock market crash. <\/p>

Mary Ellen Chase papers, 1902-1973<\/a><\/strong>Consists primarily of manuscript material highlighting Chase’s writing process and publications. It focuses on three of the author’s novels; early unpublished essays (1904-1909); extensive correspondence with family members, publishers, professors, statespersons, and other authors; and includes a small collection of photographs, both formal portraits and informal snapshots. The collection also holds exceptional personal scrapbooks created by the author, each one devoted to a particular novel. The scrapbooks include fan mail, reviews and criticisms, newspaper clippings, and speaking engagements.<\/p>

Virginia Chase papers, 1910-1987<\/a><\/strong>Includes correspondence with both Dorothy Healy and Grace Dow as well as with others; typescripts of Virginia Chase Perkins\u2019 novel, This American House<\/em> and other publications; and interviews, clippings and reviews of her work in publications such as Down East<\/em> and Yankee<\/em>, including a representative collection of her short stories from the 1930s into the 1980s.<\/p>

Carolyn Chute collection, 1984-2009<\/a><\/strong>Consists almost entirely of newspaper and magazine interviews with the author and reviews of her publications. The material reveals a great deal about her personal life and how it influences her writing.<\/p>

Chute-Kellman Maine Militia papers, 1995-2018<\/a><\/strong>The majority of the collection is composed of correspondence from Carolyn Chute to Peter Kellman, spanning the years of 1995-2018. Chute’s correspondence is wide-ranging in its subject matter–from personal reflections on writing and the politics of publishing to political discussions about corporate personhood and the work of the 2nd Maine Militia.<\/p>

A. Carman Clark papers, 1917-2005<\/a><\/strong>Contains diverse material types: diaries and journals covering 30 years; manuscript, draft and printed columns; articles and books; research files composed of clippings, notes, and correspondence; extensive correspondence; information on memberships, awards, teaching and conferences; and memorabilia including photographs, school papers and her typewriter.<\/p>

Martha Clark collection, undated<\/a><\/strong>Includes a published poem possibly by Martha Clark.<\/p>

S. R. Graham Clark collection, undated<\/a><\/strong>Includes a short biographical sketch.<\/p>

Rebecca Sophia Clarke collection, 1906, 1988<\/a><\/strong>Includes photographs and an obituary.<\/p>

Margaret Ellen Clifford collection, 1928-1934<\/a><\/strong>Includes photographs, playbills, correspondence, ephemera from travels, school papers, and a published play (in Vassar Review<\/em>).<\/p>

Clifford-Flanders family papers, circa 1852-1989<\/a><\/strong>Contains biographical and genealogical material, writings, correspondence, photographs and memorabilia. The first series consists of biographical information and birth, marriage, death and estate records, as well as a good deal of genealogical research on the Clifford, Lee, Hawkins and Flanders families (mostly performed by Margaret Clifford Flanders) with additional minimal information on the DeMerritt and Came lines.<\/p>

Clubs, Organizations, and Associations collection, 1803-1987<\/a><\/strong>Consists of materials pertaining to various women\u2019s clubs, organizations, and associations, located for the most part in Maine, with a few belonging to other states. Some are local branches of national organizations, such as the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and the American Association of University Women, while most are stand-alone entities. <\/p>

Elizabeth Jane Coatsworth papers, 1852-2022<\/a><\/strong>Includes manuscripts, diaries and notebooks, personal and professional correspondence, memorabilia, appointment books, photographs, scrapbooks, and other papers from Coatsworth\u2019s life.<\/p>

Dorothy Cole collection, 1977-1981<\/a><\/strong>Contains correspondence to Dorothy Healy and four bell catalogs of the Cole Museum – Taps, Twisters and Twirlers<\/em>; Bells That Do Not Ring<\/em>; The Museum Home of Dorothy and Robert Cole…Mecca in Maine<\/em>; and Door-Bells<\/em>.<\/p>

Jessie S. Cole collection, 1976<\/a><\/strong>Includes a booklet of poetry written by Jessie Cole and illustrated by her daughter.<\/p>

Miriam Colwell collection, 1945-1998<\/a><\/strong>Includes an article about Miriam Colwell and Clifford S. Reynolds (Precursors of the “real” Maine by Sanford Phippen), reviews, and publishers’ manuscripts for three of her books – Wind Off the Water<\/em>, Day of the Trumpet<\/em>, and Young<\/em>.<\/p>

Mary Elizabeth Neal Copeland collection, 1925-1985<\/a><\/strong>Includes a scrapbook of published poetry clippings, photocopies of her 1938 and 1947 travel journals, and a brief biographical sketch.<\/p>

Jennifer Craig collection, 1992-2020<\/a><\/strong>Includes broadside, journals, essays, and articles.<\/p>

Dorothy M. Cram collection, 1931-1987<\/a><\/strong>Includes poetry and short story manuscripts as well as clippings of published material by Cram.<\/p>

Janis Cummings collection, circa 1970-1979<\/a><\/strong>Includes correspondence and manuscripts.<\/p>

Rebecca Cummings collection, 1984<\/a><\/strong>Includes a press release and an article.<\/p>

Sharon Cummins collection, 2007<\/a><\/strong>Contains notes from Evergreen Cemetery, 1850 and 1860 censuses, and records from Kennebunk. The materials also include newspaper articles on the murder trial and an earlier description of the marriage and murder, which was included in the book Women Who Kill<\/em>.<\/p>

Patricia D’Angelo collection, 1991-1997<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence, biographical information and published and unpublished poetry.<\/p>

Deborah Dalfonso collection, 1988-2008<\/a><\/strong>The five folders in this collection include Dalfonso’s obituary, fourteen articles for Down East<\/em>, a sample of other magazine articles, and mock-ups of her two books: Sister<\/em> (about the life of interior decorator Sister Parish), and Christina Olsen<\/em> (on the woman featured in Andrew Wyeth’s “Christina’s World”).<\/p>

Edith Leverett Dalton collection, circa 1897<\/a><\/strong>Handwritten manuscripts for two prose stories, “Country Life” and “The Blue Dress.” <\/p>

Geneva V. Damon collection, 1973-1980<\/a><\/strong>Published and unpublished poems, articles.<\/p>

Mildred E. Danforth collection, 1970-2007<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence, an article and copies of book covers.<\/p>

Louise Darcy collection, 1933-1978<\/a><\/strong>Published poetry and an obituary.<\/p>

Bradford Dudley Daziel collection, 1975-1992<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence and a copy of Daziel’s dissertation.<\/p>

Elizabeth De Wolfe collection, 1997, 2009<\/a><\/strong>Includes research for a book and a lecture invitation.<\/p>

Margaret Wade Campbell Deland collection, 1925-1991<\/a><\/strong>Includes a 1941 letter signed by Deland, a fascinating hand made gift book, photographs and slides of Graywood, published work in periodicals, and a matted and framed ink drawing of Deland’s Kennebunkport living room, 1950.<\/p>

Florence Demers collection, circa 1950-1977<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence, essays, an interview, and a booklet titled My Bird Friend<\/em>.<\/p>

Nancy Dibner papers, 1966-2007<\/a><\/strong>Includes, among other things, papers concerning the National Organization for Women (NOW), the formation of the Maine Chapter of NOW, and a collection of feminist buttons and political stickers of the early 1970s.<\/p>

Margaret Dickson collection, 1983-1993<\/a><\/strong>Correspondence, promotional materials, and reviews.<\/p>

Michelle Dionetti collection, 1990-1994<\/a><\/strong>Includes a resume, correspondence and reviews.<\/p>

Dorothea Lynde Dix collection, 1848-1974<\/a><\/strong>Material related to Dorothea Dix’s work on behalf of society’s disadvantaged and war veterans as recorded in Congressional testimony.<\/p>

Myrtle Doane collection, 1925-1981<\/a><\/strong>Consists largely of clippings of Doane’s newspaper columns and poetry from the Advertiser-Democrat<\/em> and other local papers.<\/p>

Mary G. Doe collection, circa 1849<\/a><\/strong>Consists of a clipping of one of Doe’s poems, an elegy composed on the death of Abigail Marston, Parsonsfield, Maine (1849).<\/p>

Marie Donahue papers, 1904-2008<\/a><\/strong>These papers offer a unique portrait of a literary life anchored in South Berwick, Maine, much of it centering around Sarah Orne Jewett. There is correspondence between Donahue and numerous literary figures including Gladys Hasty Carroll, Dorothy Healy, and Douglas Alvord, as well as Senators Margaret Chase Smith and George Mitchell. <\/p>

S. Dorman collection, undated<\/a><\/strong>Contains two press releases for Maine Metaphor: The Green and Blue House<\/em>.<\/p>

Jacqueline M. Dumas collection, 1971-1977<\/a><\/strong>Includes reviews, articles and correspondence.<\/p>

Patricia DuBose Duncan collection, 2001-2017<\/a><\/strong>Contains a press release, a newspaper article, and a short biography.<\/p>

Emma B. Dunham collection, 1877<\/a><\/strong>Includes a Christmas carol written by Dunham.<\/p>

Miriam Dyak collection, 1975-1977<\/a><\/strong>Includes reviews and published poems, as well as correspondence with Blackberry Books publisher Gary Lawless, a poetry manuscript, cassette tapes, and a photo.<\/p>

Emma Eames collection, 1903<\/a><\/strong>Includes an article about Eames and her Italian home from The Delineator<\/em>, December 1903. <\/p>

Myra Smith Earl collection, 1993<\/a><\/strong>A review and publicity materials.<\/p>

Fannie Hardy Eckstorm collection, 1917-1996<\/a><\/strong>A small number of reviews and articles (photocopies) about the author and her writings about Maine; also one photo which is a reproduction. There is a reprint of an extract from her 1889 journal, edited by Benton L. Hatch and also a personal letter from him to its recipient, tucked into the reprint.<\/p>

Education collection, 1840-1979<\/a><\/strong>Includes correspondence, a commencement booklet, a “List of Guests,” and Misses Symonds’ School Catalogue<\/em>. <\/p>

Eva Elder collection, undated<\/a><\/strong>This collection includes a photograph.<\/p>

Margery Eliscu collection, 1977-1992<\/a><\/strong>Includes articles, publicity and newspaper columns.<\/p>

Kathleen Ellis collection, 1989-1996<\/a><\/strong>Reviews, workshop publicity and articles.<\/p>

Marguerite Weymouth Emerson collection, undated<\/a><\/strong>A collection of poems.<\/p>

Ina N. Emery collection, 1931<\/a><\/strong>Includes a paper read by Ina Emery at the Stanley-Gould reunion, August 29, 1931.<\/p>

Frances Emery-Waterhouse collection, 1948\u20131966<\/a><\/strong>Includes correspondence with Burton Trafton, biographical information and articles.<\/p>

Chansonetta Stanley Emmons collection, 1886\u20132008<\/a><\/strong>Includes numerous items relating to Chansonetta Stanley Emmons’ life and work, including include copies of correspondence, photographs, articles, and glass plate negatives of images taken in Kingfield and New Portland, Maine.<\/p>

Female Samaritan Association records, 1828-2007<\/a><\/strong>Consists primarily of meeting and financial records, dating from the 1930s to the present. There are constitutions, brochures, clippings, and some photographs of the founder and members.<\/p>

Feminist Spiritual Community records, 1975-2017, undated<\/a><\/strong>Meeting notes which discuss the Community’s decision-making process, as well as financial documents, newsletters, and by-laws. There are many examples of rituals the Community performed and various objects used in these rituals.<\/p>

Fanny Fern collection, 1853-1872<\/a><\/strong>Includes twentieth century articles, a family history, photographs, and published work in periodicals including Portland Transcript<\/em> and the People’s Organ<\/em>. The collection holds at least one copy of each of her book titles and three titles appearing as articles in Portland newspapers. In some cases multiple printings of a given title are in the collection. Unless otherwise indicated, the titles are first editions. Additionally, the collection holds several biographical and critical titles.<\/p>

Rachel Field collection, 1925-1971<\/a><\/strong>Among the manuscript material in this collection is correspondence from Rachel Field to Elizabeth Coatsworth and Rosamond Lamb and letters from a Cranberry Island legend, Samuel Clark Sanford, to Rosamond Lamb. There are two photo Christmas cards, magazine and newspaper reviews of her books, her obituary, and notes revealing her husband’s welfare after her death in 1942.<\/p>

Fitch family correspondence, 1845-1868<\/a><\/strong>The Fitch family letters contain letters from multiple members of the Fitch family. The bulk of the letters are from Frances (Fannie) Anderson to her cousin Mary Perley (nee Fitch); these letters are posted from Paris, Savannah, Georgia, and Bridgton, Maine. The second largest collection of letters is from Almira Fitch to her daughter, Caroline. There are also multiple dance hall cards from Portland, Maine dances throughout 1848 signed by Henry Perley.<\/p>

Also included are pedagogical and Biblical notes of significance to her development. Most of the entries were written in Waldoboro or other surrounding towns where Hoffses taught school.<\/p>

Jay Wood Turning Company documents, 1899\u20131916<\/a><\/strong>Documents from circa 1900 concerning the establishment of the Jay Wood Turning Company and its stockholders. Also included is material relating to the Julia Cote case, which appeared before the Maine Supreme Court in 1916. Documents include the Supreme Court writ and and attorney’s letter advising the Jay Wood Company in matters of the case. A roster of names is also included, signed by workers wishing to donate a portion of their earnings to Julia Cote.<\/p>
