Creative Writing Workshops
The Maine Women Writers Collection hosts a weekly creative writing workshop and offers a supportive community for authors in all genres and at all levels of practice.
Gathering of Writers
Gathering of Writers fosters the development of each writer’s unique voice. Through discussion, modeling, prompts, and time for writing and sharing, we explore craft from all angles. The Gathering is open to all community members, all levels of writing experience and all genres of writing.
The goal of these workshops is to provide the time and space to work on the craft of writing, explore the stories we want to tell and find a supportive community in which to find our voices.
In each session we explore a particular aspect of the creative writing craft, from setting to dialogue to point of view. Using excerpts from published materials, we examine how authors have mastered that aspect of writing. An optional prompt is then offered. We then write for roughly an hour and then reconvene to read our work aloud and share positive feedback. At the end of each class, the facilitator summarizes the session and gives some general constructive criticism.
Gathering of Writers is facilitated by David Kuchta. David holds a Ph.D. in European History and has taught creative writing classes in a number of programs. He is the author of The Three-Piece Suit and Modern Masculinity: England, 1550-1850, and is currently completing a work of historical fiction.
