The Sandra Featherman, Ph.D. Papers document the professional, academic, and civic life of Dr. Sandra Featherman (1934–2018), an influential political scientist, university president, and advocate for women’s leadership and public policy. The collection spans 1884–2018 and measures 10.5 cubic feet, comprising materials such as correspondence, publications, photographs, speeches, organizational records, and artifacts. The papers reflect Featherman’s extensive career in higher education, including her roles at Temple University, University of Minnesota Duluth, and as President of the University of New England (1995–2006). Materials include administrative files, board and committee records, and documentation of her leadership initiatives. The collection also contains research files, drafts, and published works on urban politics, ethnic voting, diversity, and women in leadership, as well as over fifty academic articles, book chapters, and op-eds.

Significant portions of the collection relate to Featherman’s involvement in professional and civic organizations such as the American Association of University Women (AAUW), American Council on Education (ACE), and numerous Jewish and philanthropic groups. Additional materials document her service on state commissions, including Maine’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Health Care, and her participation in conferences and forums on education, diversity, and public policy.
