University of New England - Innovation for a Healthier Planet

University History Collections

In 1978 The College of Osteopathic Medicine joined with St. Francis College to form the University of New England. The University grew in 1996 when UNE merged with Westbrook College and aquired the Portland, Maine Campus. The University expanded again in 2014 when the Tangier, Morocco Campus was built on the grounds of the American School of Tangier.

The Westbrook College History Collection and the St. Francis College History Collection contain historical administrative materials from both colleges as the predecessors to the current organization. You can also view fully digitized copies of the Westbrook College yearbook, The Tower; and St. Francis College yearbooks.

The New England Osteopathic Heritage Center contains some physicians’ collections whose materials may relate to the establishment of UNE College of Medicine in 1978.

An official UNE archives program is in the planning stages as the University grows in size and complexity.
