Study Spaces
The Portland Campus library features three floors of study space.
- Silent study space is located on the lower level and the book stacks on the second floor.
- Group study spaces are available on the first and second floors.
Study tables, carrels, soft seating, and adjustable-height study furniture are available.

Borrow what you need to study effectively:
- Anatomical models
- Calculators
- Office supplies like colored pencils, highlighters, scissors, and rulers
- Portable white boards & dry erase markers
- Device chargers
- Laptop stands
- DVD player
- Stethoscope & blood pressure cuff

- White noise machines, light therapy lamp, seat cushion, and noise-cancelling headphones

Study Rooms
Our seven private and group study rooms in the library are available first come, first serve at the library front desk. Check room availability.
24-Hour Study Spaces
The 24-Hour study lounge is located to the left of the library entrance. This space has two PC computers, a black and white printer, a microwave, vending machines, and hot and cold filtered water. Use your UNE ID card at the library front entrance to access this space when the library is closed.
Maine Women Writers Collection
The Maine Women Writers Collection is located in the Portland Campus library on the first floor.
UNE Art Gallery
The Portland Campus UNE Art Gallery is located behind the library building and features two floors of accessible study space. The gallery holds regular exhibits and can be booked for functions, events and meetings.
Accessibility
We are committed to library spaces which meet the needs of all members of the UNE community.
- There is a ramp and power-assisted doors at the library main entrance, located in the side courtyard opposite Alumni Hall. Approach the building from the main circle.
- Disability parking is available in the parking lot behind the library.
- An elevator is located to the left of the main entrance and provides access to all library levels.
- Lighting throughout most of the building is natural spectrum LED. The library lower level is dimly lit, and each study table is equipped with a table lamp. Study carrels have optional lights.
- The lower level and second floor book stacks are designated as silent study spaces.
- Borrow white noise machines, a light therapy lamp, a seat cushion, and noise-cancelling headphones at the front desk.

Food & Drink
Food and drink are allowed. Microwaves, snack and beverage vending machines, hot and cold filtered water, and a refrigerator are available in the 24-hour study lounge. The lower level has a water bottle filling station.
Restrooms
There is an all-gender and accessible restroom on the first floor by the Maine Women Writers Collection. Accessible restrooms are located on the lower level.
Printers & Computers
The library has color and black & white printers, a copy/scan machine and PC computers in the 24-hour lounge. Laptops are available to borrow at the front desk.
Computers require a valid UNE login for use. Do not save your work to library computers! Downloaded files, personal settings, browser cache, and cookies are deleted when you log off or time out. Use cloud storage or a USB drive to save your work.
Software
All computers are equipped with Microsoft Office Suite, Box, SPSS, and software to support specific programs. Contact UNE’s Information Technology Services (ITS) with questions about campus computer software.
Printing
Students receive a 500 sheet print credit at the beginning of each semester. Learn more about printing on campus [PDF]. Color and large format or volume printing is available at the copy center. Email copycenter@une.edu.
