Cecilia Ackerman and Devon Kelley-Yurdin

Referring simultaneously to nature, science, society, and transcendence, the artworks of Cecilia Ackerman and Devon Kelley-Yurdin use precise, intricate material construction to explore themes of change, embodiment, and connection. The exhibition’s title refers to Hanna Höch’s groundbreaking Dadaist photomontage of the same name, made in 1920 in the midst of extreme social and political turmoil in Europe. In our current exhibition, Ackerman and Kelly-Yurdin ask us to investigate our own relationship to lived history. Looking at their subtle and complex work, we are able to slow our racing minds and experience a different kind of communication, non-verbal and generous. One hundred years after the completion of Höch’s monumental work-on-paper, in a new age of anxiety, artists continue to investigate our relationship to the history we collectively experience by slowing down and focusing on the possibilities held by material and process
