Collection Scope and Content

This collection is composed of eight diaries written by Mattie Fletcher during the years 1911 through 1920. She was a young woman living at home with her parents and brothers. The diaries describe the events of her life on a farm in East Jay, Maine, which include domestic tasks, family life, visits with, and news about, friends and relatives, as well as sales of farm goods. She documents each day’s weather and writes full entries most days.
