Biographical/Historical Note

Monica Wood was born in Mexico, Maine into an Irish Catholic paper mill family. Her family originally came from Prince Edward Island and brought with them a strong tradition of storytelling. Wood grew up listening to the stories of her father and ballads of her grandfather. Though most of her fiction is not autobiographical, the theme of family infuses many of her stories, as it does her life. She has published half a dozen books for writers and teachers, as well as four novels and a memoir titled, When We Were the Kennedys: A Memoir From Mexico, Maine.
