Collection Scope and Content

The Nancy Dibner papers are divided into five series. Series 1 holds her papers concerning the National Organization for Women (NOW). Series 2 holds her papers concerning the formation of the Maine Chapter of NOW. Series 3 contains all the white papers and pamphlets on subjects of interest to NOW in the 1970s, which varied from abortion to zero population growth. Series 4 contains two small personal files, and series 5 is a collection of feminist buttons and political stickers of the early 1970s.

Biographical/Historical Note

Nancy Cushman Dibner is best known for her work in the formation of the NOW Maine chapter in the early 1970s. She was born in Buffalo, New York on March 23, 1926 and educated at the Scarborough School in Westchester County, New York. She married Martin Dibner in 1945, with whom she had two sons. Nancy Dibner died in Falmouth, Maine on January 25, 2007.
