This collection includes correspondence with Dorothy Healy and a biographical note.

Biographical/Historical Note

During World War II, Margaret Shea moved from New York to small town Maine with her college friend, Rebecca Files, and their children. Their experiences formed the basis for her first book, a work of fiction, The Gals They Left Behind. In 1948, she published Tavern in the Town, also based on life experiences. Both books were illustrated by Rebecca Files.
