Banned Books Week
October 8, 2026
11:30 pm
Biddeford Campus Ketchum Library
Library censorship and pressure to limit or ban access to books and other media have increased in the US over the last year. Censorship touches everyone. Public libraries, school libraries & curricula, and higher education have all been impacted by organized attempts to restrict freedom to read and other First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Banned Books week focuses our attention on these efforts and allows us to make the censorship visible so that we can stand and speak against it.
Join us at the Ketchum library, on Biddeford campus, Thursday, October 8, from 11:30-1:30 to celebrate books compelling enough for some groups to try to bury and to show these efforts will never succeed. Sample a beverage from the coffee bar, sample passages from a wide array of targeted books, discuss your own favorites, and contribute your voice to uphold the rights to speak and read freely.
