Curious about the new plant dividers in the Portland Campus Library? We had long been looking to improve this space by creating some separation and take advantage of the bright lighting here. This seemed an ideal spot to bring some biophilic design into the library.
Biophilic design is an emerging field of study in architecture and interior design which recognizes people’s innate desire to connect with nature, and the health benefits of time spent in green spaces. While it has long been known that indoor plants can improve the air quality of indoor spaces, there is a growing body of evidence showing positive impacts on mental health, concentration and academic performance associated with indoor greenery as well.
Let us know what you think of our experiment with biophilic design and whether you would like to see more greenery in our study spaces!
