At Home: A Reading by Rose Marasco
September 14, 2023
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Portland Campus Art Gallery
Join artist Rose Marasco for a reading and celebration of her new book At Home (OSMOS Books 2023), a memoir and meditation on the history of photography. Marasco is a key feminist voice among practitioners of vernacular photography and a widely exhibited photographer with works in many museum collections, who has also spent decades as a beloved and highly regarded teacher of photography.
Marasco’s volume, edited by Cay Sophie Rabinowitz and with a foreword by Lucy R. Lippard, features selections from key photographic series and short personal writings on topics ranging from artist residencies and iPhone photography to the early death of her father and her first crush on a woman. The book offers a curated yet comprehensive selection of work from more than 3 decades.
This event is offered in conjunction with Marasco’s solo show at the UNE Art Gallery, Camera Lucida (now through Oct. 8, 2023), which draws in part on the MWWC’s holdings. It is co-hosted by UNE’s Maine Women Writers Collection, Portland Campus Art Gallery, and Stephen K Halpert Collection of Photography. This event will not be recorded.
Refreshments provided; free and open to the public.
