University of New England - Innovation for a Healthier Planet

April is National Poetry Month

And we’re celebrating with haiku!

Take a moment out of your day to write a simple verse or two. As a reminder, a haiku consists of three lines of verse with five syllables, seven syllables, and five syllables. Stations are set up in the libraries for you to use if you wish.

Here are some examples to inspire you:

From my book I look–
Library windows alight
with streaming sunshine
AI is useful
But not for your citations
That book is not real
Dark and stormy night…
Heroine and I must know:
What will happen next?
Green plants on grey days
my favorite study room
has all that I need
Dive in with us, friend
Find your best stories and facts
In these libraries
What is an archivist?
I sleeve negatives, sigh, then
sleeve more negatives.

Try it yourself! Write one or more haiku on the topic of libraries and send to cmiller10@une.edu by April 15. The winner(s) will be featured on digital signage around campus and receive an excellent prize!

We can’t wait to see your creativity!
