The UNE Open Educational Resources (OER) Steering Committee is excited to announce the recipients of the OER Grants made possible by the Davis Educational Foundation. These awards highlight the university’s commitment to creating affordable, accessible, customized student learning experiences. These grants will play an essential role in expanding the open education community and promoting the use of high-quality, openly licensed materials.
OER Adoption, Modification, and Creation Grant Awardees:
- BIO 104 Biology
- Daniel Johnson, Wendy Roberts, and Jenn Garcia will transition to a fully OER-based curriculum starting in Spring 2025 by adopting OpenStax Biology 2e and creating interactive, customized materials. This project, impacting over 300 students, will reduce textbook costs and provide students with a more tailored learning experience.
- Physical Therapy
- Elise Ostensson and Marissa Lyon will remix and enhance Anatomy and Physiology 2e and Introduction to Neuroscience, incorporating student contributions to create a flexible and collaborative resource for Summer 2025.
- Macroeconomics
- Oak McCoy will create an OER for macroeconomics textbook to be adopted in Spring 2026, addressing global challenges like inequality, climate change, and the cost-of-living crisis through the lens of macroeconomic theory.
- Business
- Ryan Wang will adopt an OpenStax textbook for BUMG 101, starting immediately, offering a cost-effective and accessible resource for business students.
Open Textbook Review Mini-Grant Awardees:
This grant enables faculty to review and provide feedback on open textbooks, enhancing their quality and relevance. By doing so, they help increase the likelihood of broader adoption, contributing to a shared, openly licensed resource ecosystem that benefits both UNE students and the wider academic community.
