UNE Libraries Onward Plan

Beginning Monday, August 10, UNE Libraries will resume on-campus services!

Library hours for August – December 2020.

Policy updates

There have been some important changes to our policies and practices to align with the UNE Onward COVID-19 Response Plan and ensure the safety of our staff and visitors.

Policies and hours are subject to change at any time in response to evolving needs and situations.

At this time use of all UNE buildings, including the libraries, is restricted to only current UNE students, faculty, and staff.

Library Spaces

As in all campus buildings, masks are required in the libraries.

Furniture has been placed to ensure proper distance. Do not move furniture.

Food and drink may be consumed in the Windward 365 Cafe in the Biddeford Campus library lower level.

Remote Learning spaces

We recognize that many will be looking for places on campus to participate in remote learning courses. The library has limited seating due to the need for social distancing, but a few places which can accommodate students need to attend remote class.

Biddeford Campus

The library lower level and main level are designated as conversation zones where students may participate in a remote class. The main floor computers are not equipped with microphones or cameras and so are only suitable for participatory remote classes.

The library upper level is designated as silent study space and can be used to watch pre-recorded lectures or other course content using headphones.

Study Rooms

Library study rooms may not be reserved in advance but may be used by individuals to attend remote classes on a first- come-first-serve basis.

Portland Campus

The main and upper level mezzanine are designated as conversation zones where students may participate in a remote class. The main floor computers are not equipped with microphones or cameras and so are only suitable for participatory remote classes.

The library upper level and book stack areas are designated for silent study and can be used to watch pre-recorded lectures or other course content using headphones.

Study Rooms

Library study rooms may not be reserved in advance but may be used by individuals to attend remote classes on a first- come-first-serve basis.

Materials & Borrowing

To minimize the handling of library materials, we encourage you to request that library items be held for you to pick up at the front desk. Use the “Hold for me” button in our library catalog and you will receive an email when your item is ready.

If you prefer to get your own items, we have a self-checkout stations available at the front desk. Library staff can assist you.

We can offer inter-campus mail delivery of library items, as well as delivery by USPS for those working remotely.

We are not currently accepting donations to our regular library collections. For donations to our archives and special collections, please contact the archivist.

Handling Library Items

Please use hand sanitizer, located throughout the building, before handling library materials.

If you handle, and then decide not to borrow, something, please place it on a re-shelving cart for library staff to replace after a quarantine period.

Computers, Printers & Technology

Computers

Some computers have been disabled to ensure proper distance. Do not alter computer configuration or placement.

Please use the sanitation wipes near the computers to wipe down the desk surface, keyboard and mouse prior to and after each use.

Printers

Sanitation wipes are located near each printer. Please wipe down the printer swipe unit after each use.

Please respect distancing markers while waiting to use printers.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality will not be available in the libraries for Fall 2020. Contact us if you are interested in using the Embodied Labs experiences in other formats.

Research Assistance

Librarians can help with brief questions in the libraries, or through email, phone or chat.  We can address more in depth research questions, requests and offer consultations through Zoom or other remote technology.

Library Instruction

The Biddeford Campus instruction space will not be available for Fall 2020, but librarians can visit classrooms to offer library instruction to support information literacy.

Art Galleries

The Biddeford Campus Art Gallery will be open to view the exhibitions and as a study space during the library’s open hours.

The Portland Campus Art Gallery will remain closed until further notice. For questions or access to the collection, please contact Hilary Irons
